By Carl Ballenas

This book contains 20 original drawings of old historic buildings associated with Richmond Hill. There is also 20 pages of text, pictures, an 1873 map, and commentary that gives the early history of Richmond Hill. Some of the pictures have rarely been seen. There are pictures of the Maple Grove Quarry, the Richmond Hill Village Hall, an 1870 photograph of the Richmond Hill Depot, perhaps the oldest picture of Richmond Hill to exist, the Village Police Department of 1896, the fountain that once stood in front of the library and a photo of President Theodore Roosevelt speaking to the people of Richmond Hill in 1903 and many others.

Also found in the book are the stories of the early inhabitants of Richmond Hill including Jacob and Elisabeth Riis, Albon Platt Man, Ernest Ball, Father Maguire, Father Fahey, Marie and Charles Armbruster, Rosa and Ernest Weiden, Captain Thomas Baldwin, Alrick H. Man, Captain Briggs and many more.

This publication is a companion book to our first book on Richmond Hill, Images of America: Richmond Hill. What better way for our children to enjoy while learning and appreciating their neighborhood!

May this book be an inspiration to the youth of today
